Norfolk Police Message 20 January 2012

Norfolk Constabulary and Home Watch
Weekly crime summary 13-20 January 2012
Overview from North Norfolk Policing Commander
The new Norfolk Policing model went live on 9th January with no disruption to the service. North Norfolk will benefit from a greater visible policing presence, especially overnight and at the weekends. Officers have been tasked with paying particular attention overnight to vulnerable and rural locations and early indications are that this is proving successful in deterring criminals. Two things I would urge everybody to be vigilant for are suspicious activity around fuel oil and diesel stores, including domestic heating oil tanks; and persons or vehicles acting suspiciously where there is metal about. It could be copper piping from a building site, ladders left on top of a works van, or lead from a school or church roof. In line with a national trend the prices of fuel and metal mean that this type of offence is a growing concern so any suspicious activity should be reported straight away to give us the best chance of catching the criminals in the act. Thank you.
Chief Inspector Carl Edwards
Crime Trends
Four properties in the Sheringham and Holt areas have had metal items stolen. These have occurred between the 10-14 January. At one premises an outbuilding was opened and power tools taken. Previous crimes of this nature have occurred in the Holt and Bacton Area which indicates a pattern. Vulnerable items include metal garden ornaments and pipe work and in many cases these have been removed from the rear of the premises. Preventative steps include securing the rear of premises with locked gates. Officers are operating in marked and unmarked cars targeting these areas and stopping suspicious vehicles, please report any suspicious circumstances as soon as possible.
Overnight between 13-14 January at Edgefield a generator was stolen from a property at Holt Road. The offenders used the owner’s JCB to move the equipment and abandoned this in a nearby field. Anyone with information to assist with the investigation please contact the Police on 101.
Anti-social behaviour summary
Between Thursday 12 and Monday 16January three vehicles in Cromer have been damaged. Two vehicles on the same day on the Thursday were kicked repeatedly in Bond Street and Mount Street at approximately 9pm with one offender described as wearing a cream and brown style flight jacket. Another vehicle on Alfred Road has been scratched by an unknown object. Police are stepping up patrols during the evenings across Cromer specifically where a pattern has been identified of similar crimes during the last 12months. The public are being requested to call 101 to report any suspicious activity so the officers can get every opportunity to catch these offenders.
Please note the information contained within the crime summary is information suitable for public distribution and does not include certain categories which may have personal privacy or data protection implications.

Highway Rangers

Roads and the Rangers

Norfolk County Council is responsible for most of the roads in the County, and they are now sending ‘Highway Rangers’ round periodically to deal with the more straightforward issues that are always arising. Parish Councils are forewarned of impending visits and are asked to submit suggestions as to tasks they can do.

They are due to be here next in mid-February.

Any suggestions as to jobs for the Rangers should go to our Clerk, Tracey Bayfield as soon as possible.
